With 18 available rotors and over 413 application configurations, Universal 320 handles virtually any centrifugation task – from large 200 ml flasks to microlitre tubes, PCR strips, microplates, cytology preparations and Chrome Bath tubes. No other benchtop centrifuge offers comparable breadth.

Extremely compact and lightweight
With a footprint of only 401 × 529 mm and a weight of only 31 kg (standard version), Universal 320 can practically be placed anywhere – on a standard lab bench, in a mobile analysis team, or in a tight production facility.

High performance in a compact format
Up to 24,900 RCF and 16,000 rpm – performance matching far larger and heavier centrifuges. Extremely short acceleration and deceleration times enable fast sample handling.

Quiet operation
Down to 48 dB(A) with angle rotor 1611, making it well suited for open industrial laboratories and production facilities.

Available with and without cooling
Universal 320 for standard applications and Universal 320R with integrated cooling from -20°C to +40°C with pre-cooling function.

Frequently Asked Questions

The main difference is that Universal 320R has an integrated cooling system that allows the chamber temperature to be adjusted from -20°C to +40°C with a pre-cooling function. This makes the 320R essential for temperature-sensitive samples such as biological specimens, enzymes and cell cultures where heat generation during centrifugation can affect sample integrity. The standard Universal 320 has no cooling and is suited for standard applications where temperature control is not required.

Universal 320 offers 18 available rotors and over 413 application configurations – more than any comparable benchtop centrifuge in its class. This means it can handle virtually any centrifugation task: large volume flasks, microlitre tubes, PCR strips, microplates, cytology preparations and industry-specific tube types such as Chrome Bath tubes. No other centrifuge in this format offers comparable flexibility.

Depending on the rotor selected, Universal 320 handles up to 4 × 200 ml, 6 × 94 ml, 24 × 2 ml or 84 × 0.2 ml per run. With the 24-place swing-out rotor (Cat. No. 1555), up to 24 × 2 ml tubes can be processed simultaneously at up to 10,000 rpm.

Yes. Universal 320 is specifically designed to support industrial applications including Chrome Bath analysis in the surface treatment industry. With the right rotor configuration it handles the tube types and volumes used in standard Chrome Bath testing procedures.

Universal 320 has a footprint of only 401 × 529 mm and weighs approx. 31 kg — making it one of the most compact centrifuges in the Hettich range relative to its performance level. The refrigerated 320R version is somewhat larger at 407 × 698 × 346 mm and approx. 52 kg due to the integrated cooling unit.

The impulse button allows brief centrifugation without setting a specific run time — the centrifuge runs only as long as the button is held down and stops immediately when released. This is particularly useful for quick sample mixing, brief separations or situations where exact centrifugation time is less critical than rapid sample handling.
