Areas of Use

Hettich Rotina 380/380R is a compact benchtop centrifuge with high performance and space-saving design, developed for industrial laboratories that require maximum flexibility. With nine available rotors and capacity for everything from 4 × 290 ml flasks to 144 samples and 10 microplates, it covers an extremely wide range of applications.

Typical areas of use include:

  • Quality control and sample preparation in the food industry
  • Environmental analyses of water, soil and sediment samples
  • Separation and particle analysis in chemical and materials technology industry
  • High-throughput microplate processing (MTP, DWP, PCR) in industrial analysis laboratories
  • Sample preparation for pharmaceutical production and quality control
  • Separation of emulsions, suspensions and colloids in production environments
  • Conical tube analyses with up to 52 × 15 ml per run
  • Industrial R&D applications requiring rapid switching between sample types

Rotina 380R (with cooling) provides temperature control from -20°C to +40°C with pre-cooling function, making it ideal for temperature-sensitive industrial processes.

Advantages

Rotina 380/380R gives industrial businesses a compact and powerful centrifuge that takes up minimal space without compromising on performance.

Space-saving design with full performance
With a footprint of only 457 × 600 mm (standard version), Rotina 380 is one of the most compact centrifuges in its performance class. It still delivers 24,400 RCF and 15,000 rpm — identical to far larger models.

Nine rotors for maximum versatility
Five swing-out rotors and four angle rotors cover everything from large 290 ml flasks and microplates to microlitre tubes. The most versatile swing-out rotor (1754) handles 144 samples, 4 × 290 ml flasks or 8 × 94 ml containers in one and the same rotor.

Quiet operation
With only 54 dB(A) with angle rotor 1760, Rotina 380 is well suited for use in open industrial laboratories and production facilities where noise is a factor.

Available with and without cooling
Rotina 380 for standard applications and Rotina 380R with integrated cooling from -20°C to +40°C with pre-cooling function.

98 programmable memory positions
Store and recall up to 98 centrifugation programmes with 9 acceleration steps and 10 braking steps, plus short-cycle mode for rapid spin-down.

IVDR-compliant
Certified in accordance with EU Regulation 2017/746, which qualifies it for use in regulated diagnostic and industrial environments.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The main difference is that Rotina 380R has an integrated cooling system that allows the chamber temperature to be adjusted from -20°C to +40°C with a pre-cooling function. This makes the 380R essential for temperature-sensitive samples such as biological specimens, enzymes and cell cultures. The 380R is also somewhat larger (457 × 750 × 418 mm vs. 457 × 600 × 418 mm) and heavier (approx. 81 kg vs. 51 kg) due to the cooling unit.

Rotina 380 is optimised for compactness and industrial versatility with a footprint of only 457 × 600 mm, while Rotina 420 is a larger model with a higher maximum capacity. Rotina 380 delivers the same 24,400 RCF and 15,000 rpm as far larger models, making it the preferred choice for laboratories where bench space is limited but performance requirements are high.

Depending on the rotor selected, Rotina 380/380R handles up to 4 × 290 ml, 144 individual samples, 10 microplates or 30 × 2 ml tubes per run. The most versatile swing-out rotor (Cat. No. 1754) handles 144 samples, 4 × 290 ml flasks or 8 × 94 ml containers in one and the same rotor.

Yes. Rotina 380/380R has a noise level of only 54 dB(A) with angle rotor 1760, making it well suited for use in open industrial laboratories and production facilities where noise levels are a consideration.

Yes. With the dedicated microplate swing-out rotors (Cat. No. 1760 and 1770), Rotina 380/380R handles up to 10 microplates per run, including MTP, DWP and PCR plates. This makes it suitable for high-throughput screening and analysis in industrial and pharmaceutical laboratories.

With a footprint of only 457 × 600 mm and a weight of approx. 51 kg, Rotina 380 is one of the most compact centrifuges that delivers 24,400 RCF and 15,000 rpm. Most centrifuges with comparable performance are significantly larger and heavier, making Rotina 380 the preferred choice for laboratories where bench space is at a premium.
