Vacuum oven VO

Drying oven / Heating oven

Digital pressure control ensures rapid and gentle vacuum drying. Its speed-controlled vacuum pump (accessory) saves around 70% energy.

Gentle, powerful, energy-saving
Vacuum drying oven VO

Reliable, comfortable and energy-efficient – that’s how vacuum drying works today. Separately adjustable and directly heated thermoshelves ensure precise temperature control and, thanks to the digital pressure control, the chamber load is not only dried at high speed but also extremely gently in our powerful and robust vacuum drying oven. Together with the speed-controlled vacuum pump, the vacuum oven VO forms an unbeatably energy-efficient duo. The pump is perfectly tidied away in the matching base cabinet.

  • Temperature range up to +200 °C
  • Vacuum control range: 5 to 1100 mbar
  • 3 model sizes (29 to 101 litres volume)
  • 1 model variant: TwinDISPLAY
  • Anti-splinter; VDE-tested door construction for all models
  • Pump control: Optimised rinsing of the pump membrane as well as signal output for switching the pump ON/OFF according to requirements.
  • Optional: Pump base cabinet and energy-efficient vacuum pump

Significantly reduced heating-up and processing times in the vacuum drying oven

When vacuum drying large quantities of powder or granulate, the vacuum cycles, which Memmert is the only manufacturer worldwide to offer, come into play perfectly: Two vacuum values can be set, between which the pressure is oscillated under controlled conditions. This way, a large amount of dry air is admitted within a short time, which absorbs humidity and is immediately extracted by the vacuum pump.

Climate-friendly accessories: Vacuum pump saves around 70 % energy

The spectrum for vacuum drying in a Memmert vacuum oven VO ranges from foodstuffs to cosmetics, granulate, watches, books, printed circuit boards, to electronic components or injection moulds.
Due to the low final vacuum of the speed-controlled, chemical-resistant vacuum pump of up to 2 mbar – the aforementioned is possible.
The demand-oriented pump control ensures a significantly longer service life for the membranes. The energy-saving potential is particularly impressive compared to an uncontrolled vacuum pump. With representative measurements in ramp operation, energy consumption was around 70 % lower, and even better values were achieved with a constant vacuum value.
The speed-controlled Memmert vacuum pump is automatically detected by every vacuum drying oven VO. In the event that another vacuum pump or a central vacuum supply is connected, the vacuum is controlled via solenoid valves.

Uniquely precise: The Memmert VO direct heating system

Multi-Level-Heating & Sensing: intelligent direct heating via individually placeable thermoshelves with separate sensors guarantees short heating and process times in the Memmert vacuum drying oven. The control circuits react precisely to different loads or humidity and maintain a constant set temperature during vacuum drying. Thanks to the direct contact between the heating and the load, practically no heat loss occurs. Each thermoshelf can be individually calibrated.

Areas of Use

The Memmert VO vacuum oven is built for gentle, rapid vacuum drying in laboratories and industry where temperature and pressure must both be controlled precisely and simultaneously. Typical applications include:

  • Drying of powders and granulates
  • Determination of water content for quality assurance
  • Drying of cultures and probiotics
  • Preservation and dehydration of foodstuffs
  • Drying of electronic components
  • Drying of thermosensitive materials where low temperature combined with vacuum is essential
  • Degassing and drying of polymers, composites and coatings
  • Pharmaceutical drying at moderate temperatures

Advantages

Multi-level direct heating — shorter process times
Individual thermoshelves with separate sensors and direct contact between heating and load give minimal heat loss and very short heat-up and process times. Each thermoshelf is controlled and calibrated separately, independently of the others.

Digitally controlled vacuum cycles
The chamber is vented at short intervals during the drying process, which shortens drying time considerably compared with conventional vacuum drying. Ramps with different temperature and vacuum setpoints are easy to programme via AtmoCONTROL.

Speed-controlled vacuum pump — 70 % energy saving
Combined with the speed-controlled, chemically resistant vacuum pump, the VO series saves around 70 % of the energy in ramp operation compared with an uncontrolled pump. Demand-oriented pump control and optimised flushing also extend diaphragm service life significantly.

Ultimate vacuum down to 2 mbar
The speed-controlled vacuum pump reaches an ultimate vacuum of up to 2 mbar, opening the oven to a wide range of demanding processes.

Corrosion-resistant throughout
Because aggressive substances are common in vacuum drying, the chamber and thermoshelves are made from stainless steel 1.4404 (ASTM 316L) and the tubing from 1.4571 (ASTM 316Ti) — considerably more corrosion-resistant than the 304 steel used in standard ovens.

Anti-splinter door design
A robust, VDE-tested door construction on every model: a spring-loaded 15 mm safety glass panel with an anti-splinter screen on the outside, safe even under rapid pressure change.

Neat pump cabinet solution
The vacuum pump mounts discreetly in a matching base cabinet beneath the oven, keeping the bench clear and protecting the pump from dust and knocks.

TwinDISPLAY as standard
Every VO model ships with TwinDISPLAY — advanced touchscreen control with programme management, USB connectivity and AtmoCONTROL compatibility for full process documentation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A standard heating oven uses hot air to dry or heat-treat samples. A vacuum oven removes the air from the chamber and creates negative pressure, which lowers the boiling point of liquids and makes it possible to dry thermosensitive materials at a lower temperature without damaging them. The vacuum oven suits materials that cannot tolerate high temperatures but contain moisture that has to be removed.

Each thermoshelf in the VO series has its own sensor and can be controlled and calibrated separately. Different shelves can hold different temperatures in the same run, and the temperature is measured as close to the load as possible rather than in the air. That gives very accurate, reproducible temperature control right where the sample sits.

In conventional vacuum drying the vacuum is held constant throughout the process. With digitally controlled vacuum cycles the chamber is vented at short, controlled intervals. This creates a pumping effect that actively drives moisture out of the material, giving considerably shorter drying times than a static vacuum.

Yes. The VO series has built-in pump control with a signal output that switches the pump on and off according to process demand. This optimises flushing of the pump diaphragm and extends its service life. The speed-controlled pump (accessory) also adjusts its speed to demand, giving around 70 % energy saving in ramp operation.

Yes, but it requires a chemically resistant vacuum pump (accessory) and correct gas ballast handling. The chamber and tubing are made from 316L and 316Ti stainless steel specifically because aggressive substances are common in vacuum drying. For applications involving aggressive solvents, contact us for advice on the right pump type and setup.
